All About Claudia: 6 months

Claudia is 6 months old! I can't believe she's halfway through her first year. It seems like she is growing and changing every day and it is so fun to watch her experience the world around her :-) She brings joy to everyone she's around, including strangers in restaurants and in stores. It's truly a blessing to be her mommy.

Daily Routine: Our routine has changed slightly with teething and transitioning out of her last nap. She's also eating solids three out of her four meals now! Austin and I are excited that we will buying less formula! And, we're saving money by making her baby food, which I'm loving!

8:00 a.m.:Claudia's Breakfast (Oatmeal Cereal and 4 oz. Formula)

9:30/10:00 a.m.: Morning Nap

12:00 p.m.: Claudia's Lunch (3 oz. Baby Food [Fruit or Veggie] and 5 oz. Formula)

1:30/2:00 p.m.: Afternoon Nap

4:00 p.m.: Claudia's Dinner (3 oz. Baby Food [Fruit or Veggie] and 5 oz. Formula)

4:30 p.m. (every 2-3 days): Bath time!

5:00-5:30ish: Optional Nap (this is one we're transitioning out of!)

8:00 p.m.:Claudia's Evening Meal (8 oz. Formula)

8:30-9:00 p.m: Bedtime

Sleeping Habits: She is still sleeping 11-12 hours through the night, with a few exceptions due to her teething! Fortunately, on the nights she wakes up, all we have to do is fumble around, find her paci, and give it back to her. That's only happened 3 times, thankfully!

She's still taking two solid naps in the morning and afternoon (unless we're travelling). She is beginning to transition out of her third nap in the early evening, which her pediatrician told me would happen very soon! However, on days like today when her two previous naps only lasted 30-45 minutes, she needed that last nap.

Claudia is beginning to sleep in different positions besides just on her back, but usually only during her naps. Using the spy camera, I mean, baby monitor, she has fallen asleep on her tummy and on her side numerous times.

Eating Habits: Claudia's feeding times and frequency have stayed the same. She eats 4 times a day (8, 12, 4 and 8). After her 6 month check-up, however, we tweaked her feeding schedule and its working great! As always, our pediatrician reminded us to let Claudia decide how much she is going to eat. She's now in the 70th percentile for weight (she has been at the 50th percentile up until this point!) so she must know what she's doing :-)

At her 8 a.m. feeding, she eats Oatmeal cereal (I make it with 2 oz of formula) and then give her 4-5 oz of formula.

At her noon and 4 p.m. feedings, I offer her 3 oz. of baby food, letting her eat as much as she wants, followed by 4-5 oz of formula. I'm actually making her baby food, which I plan to do another post on soon, and have learned so much about which fruits and veggies are best for 4-6 month olds! So far she's eaten: sweet potatoes, butternut squash and green peas. She still needs to try: avocado, banana, apples, pears and zucchini.

At her 8 p.m. feeding, we're still giving her an 8 oz bottle of formula. It really relaxes her and I think sucking on the nipple is soothing to her sore little gums.

Bath Time: Claudia still loves her bath! She giggles with excitement when I'm filling up the bathtub! I couldn't resist snapping this photo: :-)

She's still using the bather, but probably not for too much longer! After I bathe her, I let her sit in the water and splash while I let the water out. She is fascinated with the drain.

I've switched from bathing her every other day to every 3 days because she's had some dryness on her legs that lotion isn't helping, so I'm going to see if decreasing the use of soap on them will help!

Favorite Activities: Her doorway "Excer-saucer", Playing with her toy "walker" on the floor, rolling over and "exploring", taking walks, eating.

Favorite Things: Her seal, "The Jesus Storybook Bible", Her sunhat.

Current Phase: Teething!!! She has two little teeth on the way (her bottom center). One has broken through the skin and she's working on the other one. She's more restless and occasionally will wake up in the middle of the night. She seems to be in minimal pain and hasn't run a fever, which I am so thankful for! We'll see how she does the more teeth that come in.

Milestones: Claudia is rolling over both ways now! By rolling and moving, she made it halfway across the room yesterday. She should be crawling soon. She's eating solid baby foods now. Her manual dexterity is getting better and better. She's able to transfer things from one hand to the other really easily. She is also beginning to understand that if she touches the screen on the phone, something happens.  And, of course, she's started cutting teeth!

Funny Habits: She's started laughing a lot at really random/silly things. It seems like when we're trying to make her laugh we have no success, but when we don't try, she belly laughs. My favorite instance is he laughing at Austin wiggling his toes.

She also makes cute little noises with her mouth, when she's not "talking", which she's doing a lot! She's been saying "dadadada", which makes Austin super happy, even though we're pretty sure she doesn't make the connection quite yet.

Teeth: Two!! She's cutting her two bottom center teeth. The left one has popped through her gum, and the right one is beginning to!

Nicknames:
Austin's: "Drool Box" and "Girlie"
Elizabeth's: "Little Precious Love" , "Love Bug", "Cutie Patootie"

Diaper Size: 3 (Pamper's Swaddlers), although after we run out of 3s we're going up to 4s.

Clothing Size: 6-9 months

Fun Times: Over the past few weeks, she celebrated the upcoming arrival of her cousin, Maggie, she celebrated Ewan's 4th birthday, she had her first Easter, hung out with her Gran Gran and Pop Pop, went to Birmingham for the first time and celebrated an early birthday with her Aunt Mary :-)
